Tenma-kun~? I have brought the bug catching net, will we be catching bugs after this?
It is still early in the day and we still have some time before the bell rings. However-
Speaking from experience, when one gets absorbed in the act of bug catching, the time flies by in the blink of an eye.
On top of that, it is Kunigi-sensei’s lesson right now…. Even if you are present in the classroom chatting away idly, he will still mark you as tardy.
If we do not take our seats soon, this will turn into trouble, won’t it~?
Tenma:
Eek, Kunigi-sensei!? I haven’t done anything wrong today! Actually, I’ve been following all the school rules properly too!
Even though I really wanna dash around during lessons, I’ve been holding it in…. In fact, I deserved to be praised!
Shinobu:
No no, Kunigi-sensei has not arrived yet. As I am in charge of day duties today, I arrived at school early but,
Frankly speaking, there is no one besides you and I are present in the classroom.
Tenma:
Nope. Me, Shinobu, and “that” is here.
Shinobu:
“That”? Mmm, in what place are you speaking of?
Tenma:
I can hear him. Ahh, just thinking about it makes me angry!
When you went to take the day duty journal, it appeared.
I chased after it right away. But it was so fast I couldn’t grab it!
I checked inside the desks, and even under the teacher’s desk. Ughh~ I got no clue where it went. It’s making me so frustrated, I wanna stomp the ground, stomp stomp!
Shinobu:
Oh, I ask of you to calm down~! Umm, so the matter you are speaking of is not a “person” then?
Tenma:
Huh, I didn’t tell you?
It’s a “mouse.” Dunno where it came from, but if we don’t catch it, it’ll be trouble.
It’ll drop poop everywhere, it’s not sanitary. It probably holed itself in this classroom somewhere. Next time I see it, I’ll catch it with the insect net~!
Shinobu:
But, is it possible to capture a mouse with an insect net? Mice possess teeth, will they not chew through the netting and escape?
Tenma:
Huhh~ they can chew through with their teeth? I didn’t think of that. Then even with an insect net, we can’t catch it, huh.
Shinobu:
We shall need to think of another solution then~…. Ah!?
Tenma:
Shinobu-chan, get away from there! Hurry hurry!
Shinobu:
R-roger…. Have you possibly caught sight of the mouse?
Tenma:
Yup, the wall behind you has a small hole there. I saw the mouse go inside.
No doubt about it, it is definitely here!
Shinobu:
Ah, it is truly as you say. There is a locker right next to it, I did not notice at all. I wonder when did this hole appear.
Tenma:
I have no clue either. ….Oh but, I did hear Niichan did say something about the school buildings sure are deteriorating~ or something like that.
Like, the floors of the classroom squeak when you step on them too so it would be nice if they could be repaired. The reason why mice are appearing could be ‘cause of deterioration too, right?
Shinobu:
True, Yumenosaki Academy does have a long history to it~
Tenma:
Yup, let’s tell Kunigi-sensei of the hole in the wall.
If we tell him a mouse is coming out of it, there will be an extermination and repairs made right away for sure.
But. That side, I’m still annoyed I couldn’t catch it though. I wont lose next time, absolu~tely won’t!
Shinobu:
Tenma-kun? Do you plan on sitting there and waiting until the mouse reappears?
Tenma:
That’s right. Oh, when Kunigi-sensei comes, could you explain the situation to him?
Shinobu:
Uh, even if I explain, Kunigi-sensei will scold you to properly focus on the lesson.
Tenma-kun, as there is still some time until the bell rings…. Why don’t we place some food out the mouse would like and observe the situation?
Tenma:
Oh, smart idea! Sure~, if we’re talking about food then, cheese?

Ah, items like bread and grains are preferred over cheese. As I raise a frog myself, I am well versed in trivia surrounding them.
At one point in time, I picked up a story about a mouse and a frog in Aesop’s Fables and ended up researching somewhat into the ecology of mice.

Huuh, well if it’s bread then I always got some on me!
Ta~da ✰ It’s the bread I was gonna eat for lunch! Rip a piece off, and scatter it around the hole!
Alright, the mouse came out! Shinobu-chan, thank you! With this, the mouse won’t get away from me next time!
